Milford-On-Sea 12th June 2011
Upon recommendation from a local Radio Amateur the society planned an outing to Milford-On-Sea for the 12th of June 2011. Plan on SOWN Wiki.
Unfortunately the weather (very high winds and sea spray) prohibited operation from the beach car park as was planned, although it was verified as a good future location.
Therefore an alternative site was found just down the road. Google Maps.
Setup
The gazebo was set up alongside the minibus, with a waterproof tarp covering both to provide cover from the rain. An end-fed zep antenna was put up between the minibus and a single section of scaffold pole lashed to a fencepost a short distance away.
Later on a section of scaffold pole was put up using a tripod in order to mount a 3-element 2m yagi antenna.
Contacts
Several European contacts were made on HF SSB during the evening, finishing with a contact to Florida, USA just after midnight.
On 2m FM several local contacts were made, as well as a contact over 60 miles away in Devon. There was no luck on 2m SSB however we were advised to try on a Tuesday activity night.
