Wireless Data Network
Creating a low bitrate wireless data network running over VHF using the UV-5R and potentially a Raspberry Pi to provide remote internet access potentially to a base station at the university.
Proposed plan
- Linux tun/tap diver to create IP interface
- find/create a Mac layer protocol for use on the VHF bands
- Create an encoder to encode the MAC layer packet into audio signals that can be sent over the radio.
Extension ideas
- Routing protocol for out of range nodes/to have multiple base stations
- Pi Backpack that connects to UV5R and provides a wifi access point / network node.
