Welcome to the homepage of the Southampton University Wireless Society - home of the Southampton Open Wireless Network, the University's Amateur Radio Club and all things related to radio/wireless communications.
Our normal schedule is an Amateur Radio (G3KMI) meeting at 6pm followed by a SOWN Meeting at 7pm every Thursday in Zepler CLS. If you have any interest in Amateur Radio or Wireless Networking then don't hesitate to join us!
If you want to chat to us at any time, we use #sown and #g3kmi on irc.ecs.soton.ac.uk ( Instructions ), if you have any radio gear, try giving us a shout on 145.350MHz!

SOWN (Southampton Open Wireless Network) is a Wireless Networking project which aims to build a free-to-use wireless network in Southampton, UK. Current activities include IPv6 and 802.1x deployment on our Community-Wide WiFi network as well as VoIP and Mesh networking. More information can be found at the project page on sown.org.uk. G3KMI is the University Amateur Radio Club. The Club is returning after more than 10 years of inactivity. We are helping anybody interested in the hobby of Amateur Radio to get involved. Amateur Radio is a hobby that involves using high-power radio communication equipment to talk to people that could be on the other side of the world. You can build and modify your own kit and even send TV pictures! For information on Licensing, find out more here.
